From centuries-old structures to quaint coastal villages, Zanzibar’s rural landscapes are full of stories. The villages of Zanzibar are scattered across both the main island (Unguja) and its smaller islands. These villages often feel like a step back in time, with traditional Swahili houses, narrow alleyways, and lush surroundings Zanzibar is also home to a variety of historical ruins that reflect the island's rich cultural heritage. One of the most significant is the Mtoni Palace Ruins, located just outside Stone Town. These ruins were once part of the palace complex of the Sultan Seyyid Said in the 19th century and provide a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of Zanzibar’s royal family.

The Fumba Ruins on the southwestern coast are another important historical site, believed to be the remains of an old palace built by the Omani Arabs during their rule over Zanzibar in the 17th century. This area is also notable for the Fumba Stone, which many locals believe has spiritual significance.
